Job evaluation

This chapter discusses job evaluation which is the process by which the relative worth of different jobs is compared. Effective job evaluation ensures that differences in remuneration and other benefits are objectively justified. It ensures internal fairness within an organizational hierarchy of roles and it helps towards competitiveness with the external labour market. In this chapter several methods such as job ranking, job grading, points assessment and factor comparison are discussed as are the factors that need to be taken into account when undertaking a job evaluation exercise. There is also consideration of how job evaluation impacts on the hospitality industry across different sizes of businesses and in different employment categories.
